    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Dried fruits and warm biscuit spices Palate: Lovely rich mouthfeel with minimal pepper. Initially sweet, but takes a slightly dry turn. Big sweet stewed fruit vibe up front, but there’s a nice saltyness at the back of that. Finish: Warm – not spicey. Long and quite delicious. The finish sees a real salted nuttiness develop which fades out with pleasant warmth. Wow – a real surprise with the nuttyness here – I was not expecting that! The 52%ABV is very well integrated and so easy on the palate. I love that the year at sea makes itself so well known in this whisky. That salty note is unmistakable… and delicious – it’s the ‘chef’s kiss’ to the whole story!

  • A Summer Whisky for only $99 from one of Australia’s legendary, award-winning distilleries? Santa, Iniquity and the Single Malt Whisky Club deliver! The perfect whisky for a hot Aussie Christmas, the latest in the much applauded and awarded Tin Shed Distillery ‘Anomaly’ Series – the Iniquity Lazy Daze. The Lazy Daze is matured in a first fill Heavens Hill ex-bourbon cask (78%) – tweaked with some shiraz (15%), tawny (3.5%) and apera (3.5%) barrels. It has been bottled at 40%ABV in order to be easy to drink yet still pack a flavour wallop! It’s sweet and fruity with next to no heat on the palate yet packs a big chewy finish. Even though it’s only packing 40%ABV, this whisky is definitely no lightweight. It’s got huge depth of flavour, big mouthfeel and …oh, did we mention it’s under a hundred bucks… in a 700ml bottle?!?!?
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Tart green apples, passionfruit, jasmine and vanilla with a note of leather too. Palate: Wow – big flavour up front with as close to zero heat as I’ve ever tasted in a whisky. Lots more classic fruit notes – citrus and banana with more passionfruit there too Finish: A lovely lingering, earthy finish with fruit mince wafting around a soft leathery oakiness with more of that classic bourbon cask vanilla jumping into the mix. Warning – this whisky is just so easy to drink it really should have a warning label! It packs a heap of flavour, but leaves all the heat behind. It’s by no means insipid or watered-down tasting but that low ABV won’t have you sweating around the BBQ when you’re drinking it. And for the price – why not throw it in a frosty highball and really cool down! The boys at the distillery recommend a mix of lemonade and orange bitters with heaps of ice.

  • Let’s FIRKIN get our whisky on! The RELEASE of not any FIRKIN WHISKY…A LINKWOOD…one of the rarest of the rare with only 1-2% ever being released as a SINGLE MALT – The Firkin Ten Linkwood 2010! The ‘Firkin Ten’ label denotes a spirit aged for 10 years prior to finishing in Mike’s custom casks. This Firkin Ten Linkwood was distilled at Linkwood Distillery, in the Speyside, in 2010. In 2020, it was bought by Mike and transferred to his hybrid, Madeira-seasoned casks where it was finished for a further two years. Bottled with no chill filtering and absolutely nothing added other than the water used to bring it down to the bottling strength of 48.9%ABV. We’re FIRKIN proud to be first to bring this new expression to market in Australia, and we’re pretty FIRKIN chuffed at the price we’ve got it for you as well!
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Rich and deep oak, more floral than fruity for me with honey hints and nutty nougat and biscuit spices well represented. Palate: Lovely luscious and oily mouthfeel with an initial burst of ‘just the right amount’ of pepper to offset the nutty, peanut brittle sweetness. There is spicy fruit mince here – but it’s certainly not the star. Nutty-caramel and dark coffee notes steal the show for me. Finish: A fantastically more-ish finish – peppery oily pulses with burnt-sugary sweet, yet somehow palate-cleansingly crisp at the same time. Delightful, but that moreish-ness seems to find me impatiently sipping another dram before I let it play right out! Another abso-Firkin-lutley sensational whisky from a man who has been creating sensational whiskies for 50 years! This is one of those ‘open it with a mate or two and next thing you know it’s all gone’ whiskies. The Firkin Ten Linkwood 2010 is a stunner!

Black Spot SMWC02 is blended from a selection of port and sherry casks all over 10 years old. Their abv’s at disgorging ranged from 66.2 to 42.1%abv but this whisky gem is bottled at 48.1%abv.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: A big succulent fruity nose with masses of juicy stone fruit, sweet-toasted marshmallow and freshly opened packet of Jaffa’s there too. Palate: Big, rich and luxurious on the palate with a delicious viscousness and just the merest pepper. There’s fruit that backs up the nose, sure – but also a very peasant nuttiness on the palate. Finish: Warm, soft, cuddly and long. The fruitiness mellows and there’s some mild ginger, coffee, dark chocolate and even some custard all tumbling around inside my smile as this lovely finish finally fades.. What can I say – it’s simply a very bloody nice, big, round and juicy, waaay too easy to drink Tassie whisky that I can almost guarantee you’re gonna love! There’s just… well… there’s just nothing here not to love. I don’t want to say buy two… but buy two! – you’ll not regret it!

With 8 years of seaside sherry-maturation, the Coastal Vintage 2011 is a sherry bomb with a definite maritime twist.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: A delicious nose that you can (I did!) sit and sniff happily for ages. All the lush fruitiness and sweet toffee and caramel you could ask for, and more… honey, nougat, biscuit spices to boot. Palate: A medium rush of white pepper hits the palate fast on first sip but is immediately quenched by a wall of thick, sweet and viscous fruit mince, there’s pastry notes too with honey, brown sugar and black coffee making itself known. There is a suggestion of saltiness on the palate Finish: The absolute definition of a long lasting, chewy finish that keeps on giving and giving. Rolling waves of sweet fruit mince, vanilla and sultanas crash on a salty foreshore of salted navy coffee and salt-water taffy. Such a luxurious whisky I’m absolutely amazed at how long this one has sailed out of sight of the whisky crowd down under. It’s absolutely bloody marvellous with all those big sherry driven notes in this massively fruit-forward whisky. The twist of salt is the perfect counter to the sweetness of the fruit. If you were paying twice the price for this you wouldn’t be disappointed! In fact – maybe that’s this whiskies only problem – it’s just not expensive enough to grab the eye of the ‘experts’.

  • Welcome to the highly decorated ‘new kid on the Scottish block’ – Lochlea. In the two years their spirit has been able to be called ‘whisky’ – they have picked up no less than TWO GOLD medals for their headline product – The Lochlea ‘Our Barley’ Expression and no less than THREE ‘Icons of Whisky’ awards for the distillery itself. These guys are not mucking around! With the team they’ve put together it’s no wonder Lochlea is kicking huge goals in the industry so relatively soon. Strong leadership has always been fundamental to the Lochlea strategy. Initially led by industry legend Malcolm Rennie (Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, Glen Moray, and now Rosebank) Lochlea is now in the more than capable hands of John Campbell. You may have heard of John, or even the humble distillery he used to manage before he came to Lochlea – a little outfit named… LAPHROAIG! In the case of the Lochlea ‘Our Barley’, the own-grown barley is fermented and distilled before being filled into a mix of first fill bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and STR (Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred) casks. Bottled as Lochlea’s flagship product at 46%abv.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: A big burst of sweet apple juice initially, but you then get a zesty marmalade backbone. Jasmine flowers, some fresh cut grassy notes and freshly opened packet of Wizz-Fizz™ Palate: Masses of sweet fruit – but with a lovely warm ginger-spice to counter that sweetness. Creamy vanilla custard and also a real meatiness gives this fantastic whisky big shoulders, not to mention a fantastic complexity. Finish: A real carnival ride this one – Juicy-Fruit gum morphs into biscuit spices then ginger nut biscuits becoming an almost umami note If you equate Lowland whisky with dry, crisp – almost delicate – aperitif style drinks – then this is going to either change your perception of ‘the Lowland Style’ – or cement it as ‘the exception that proves the rule’. This whisky is all-at-once sweet and complex and muscular yet gentle and creamy-smooth.

  • An EXCLUSIVE 700ml Whisky Release from an Australian DEDICATED PEATED Whisky Distillery! A distillery that has definitely made a big impact on the Aussie whisky scene in the relatively short while they have been trading. The first, a dedicated PEATED whisky distillery – Kinglake and their O’Grady’s Stand SMWC Special 700ml Edition. We’ve been chatting to Kinglake Distillery since before they released their inaugural whisky back in 2021, and we’re stoked to finally be able to collaborate with them on a special release – a SMWC exclusive release – the Kinglake O’Grady’s Stand SMWC Special 700ml Edition. Now Kinglake distillery have a lot of ‘firsts’ and ‘one of very few’s’ to their name. They are the first (and currently only) ‘Carbon Neutral’ distillery in Australia. They are one of the very few that use completely untreated, unfiltered water sourced from a spring on their own property. Kinglake are also one of the very few Aussie whisky distilleries that are open-fermenting their wash, thus incorporating local wild yeasts into their flavour profile.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Lovely dried apricots hit me first up, then a bouquet of floral notes – jasmine and frangipani in a rainstorm (petrichor) and vanilla pods freshly sliced, with new leather belt hovering around in the wings. Going back – there is a smokiness that’s much more apparent in a freshly finished glass than when I first started nosing the glass. Palate: Lovely oiliness on the palate and medium warmth precedes a wave of fresh pastry notes with more of those vanilla and custard tones there as well. I also get a pleasant warm leather mustiness on the palate with sweet caramel and sultanas. Finish: Ahh- citrus… I thought I was missing something, and it comes on in spades in the finish presenting as lovely candied peel. Whilst this is definitely peated whisky, it’s a very mild and gentle peat indeed. Much more a musty caress than burning rubber in a hospital ward. This American Oak qualities (citrus, vanilla etc) come through clear as day and really make this lovely whisky ‘pop’.

  • An multi-award winning ‘Scandi-Dram’, all the way from Denmark that Jim Murray declared “”What on Earth is this? Whisky-lovers will kill their mothers for a bottle of this. This could possibly become some of the world’s best peated whisky.” – Behold a very differently peated Single Malt – Stauning ‘Smoke’! A virtually unfiltered whisky matured in a mix of bourbon, Madeira, Jamaica Rum and Virgin American Oak casks for your drinking pleasure.
    • World Whiskies Awards Best Danish Single Malt 2022
    • San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold 2022
    • SIP Awards Platinum 2023
Stauning Smoke is the quintessence of the distillery’s innovative New Nordic-whisky philosophy: A mildly smoked single malt whisky made from pure local ingredients, malted on open floors, smoked over locally harvested peat and heather found in the landscape surrounding Stauning, double-distilled in small flame-heated pot stills and finally aged on 1st Fill wine and spirits casks. The result is an elegant and refined whisky with a gentle smoky taste and a complex character that oozes of the dunes, the heath and the wind by the North Sea. A thoroughbred terroir whisky that gently will blow you away.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: First impression is definitely a smoky note – but a very sweet smelling one. Underneath this lies an earthy petrichor mixed with oak, and barley is definitely noticeable there in the mix! Palate: It’s a light, and sweet smoke, sure – but it’s certainly in the drivers seat here. It’s all at once foreign, yet familiar. Lovely and oily as you’d expect from small volume pot stills. Some of the flavours here I can’t quite pick – they are indeed foreign to me (I’m more than happy to keep trying though!). However there’s also many reassuringly familiar notes there too. Vanilla, citrus, dried fruits and fruit mince are all there in the wings when you stop to notice. Finish: Wow – the finish really turns from a ‘sweet peat’ to a much more meaty-peaty. There’s also defiantly a sea-side iodine-y note as well as distinct waves of saltiness as it fades. Long, chewy and definitely interesting! Yum.. I really love this! It’s familiar… but different. It’s definitely NOT a peated Scotch whisky – but then I’m damned if don’t get a sense of Coal Ila sometimes whilst drinking the Stauning (is it the salty waves?). Easy-drinking, but complex enough that I’m still trying to pick a couple of notes I can almost recognise… ‘what IS that?’. It’s not a peat that will beat you up – but then it’s not one you can ignore, either. It’s definitely peated, make no mistake, but it’s sweet and aromatic as well as meaty and a bit iodiney in the finish.
