  • Viva la France! From the distillery that has been making spirits and liqueurs since 1900 and that produced the very first ever French Single Malt Whisky comes this magnifique whisky – the Armorik Sherry Cask from Warenghem Distillery. Nothing less than an Oloroso cask aged French single malt whisky from France’s northwesternmost region, Brittany. The Armorik Sherry Cask is aged in Oloroso sherry casks bringing together the richness of the Breton and Spanish terroirs. Its characterised by notes of spice and candied fruit, enhancing the traditional fruitiness that Armorik is renowned for.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: An elegant and complex nose featuring all your sherry favourites – sweet fruit, lovely floral notes, buttered toast and a slug of vanilla and spice, all rounded off with a faint choc-orange note. Palate: Lovely and rich, not particularly oily, but does coat the mouth nicely. Big red fruits (as expected), a creamy flavour (egg-nog?) with slight pepperyness and a hint of leather. Finish: Mild spice around the back of the mouth and  fruit to boot as well. Yes, vanilla and there’s that Jaffa note again. Yum!

  • We are proud to launch a fantastic whisky into Australia! The Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey – Release No. 035
    • A whiskey, that although spelt with an ‘e’ is an authentic Single Malt made from 100% malted barley and twice-distilled in Scottish copper pot stills.
    • Limited to only 1521 individually numbered bottles
    • The only whiskey in the world that uses the famous Baronesse barley
    • A 750ml bottle (yes, an extra 50ml of goodness!)
    • Only available in Australia through The Single Malt Whisky Club!
From the home of Boeing, Amazon, Microsoft and the birthplace of grunge – The beautiful city of Seattle, we are super excited to bring this amazing Single Malt to Australia, thus giving our members the opportunity to pioneer yet another fantastic ‘new world’ single malt. This time an American Single Malt! Release 035 was created by combining four casks of whiskey distilled from Baronesse Barley with two casks of whiskey distilled from their standard pale malt recipe. All six casks were aged for at least 39 months in charred, new American Oak, the result is an amazingly smooth, richly flavoured single malt.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Rich warm toffee over fruity marmalade notes Palate: Mmm…sweet sweet syrupy mouthfeel. More of that sweet citrus – but more mandarin-y now. Sweet peanut brittle at the back of it all Finish: Warm spicy buzz with more toffee. Also, a nutty quality – roast almonds perhaps?

  • A limited release (only 1934 bottles) individually numbered, uniquely peated Single Malt Whisky produced entirely from ingredients sourced in Washington State, USA. The Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey ‘Washington Peated’. Release 034 is Copperworks’ first release of a Peated Single Malt. It was crafted from eight casks of whiskey that were brewed and distilled from 100% of the Copeland variety of barley grown in Washington’s Skagit Valley and smoked during the malting process with Washington peat. Each cask of whiskey was matured for just over four years in lightly charred (char #1) new American Oak casks.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
I have to say that this is unlike any peated whisky I’ve ever tried before. I’m not sure if this is very lightly peated or it’s how the ‘Washington Peat’ presents – but this gives very little suggestion overall (if any) of smoke. Nose: No ‘smoke’ but a very definite ‘wet-soil’ mustiness sits over the top of salted caramel and a just tiny amount of all-spice. Palate: has a luxuriously syrupy mouthfeel (like #035). Stewed apple and rich floral notes but also an underlying leathery-earthiness. Finish: Medium length with a mild sweet spice that salivates the mouth. Once again – a mustiness rather than smokiness here. Wow – this is definitely a whisky that proves the adage ‘Peat ain’t Peat!’

  • The Member Small Batch Extra this month is the delectable Firkin Whisky Co. Firkin Benrinnes 2008 Madeira Cask from their ‘Firkin Rare’ Range. A single cask, limited edition, numbered bottling of only 259 bottles. The Firkin Benrinnes 2008 Madeira Cask (in fact all of the Firkin Rare range) is aged in custom ‘hybrid’ casks made of alternating American first-fill bourbon and new French Limousin oak staves. This Double Oak cask, in combination with the spicy richness of Madeira, creates a unique flavour profile. What emerges is rich, lively and a tad spicy. When the ex- 'Head of Malts’ at mega-booze-company Diageo (the man responsible for such things as Johnny Walker Blue Label and the ‘Classic Malts Collection’) teams up with the owner of ‘Blackadder International’ independent bottlers you get a marriage of decades of experience of whisky production with a newfound freedom to experiment! Oh – and also a Firkin lovely range of independently bottled single cask whiskies. We first offered a Firkin Whisky Co. release back in early 2020, and the superb Firkin Aultmore 2010 last month and the response is always HUGE! And so, by popular demand, we’ve got another offering from this firkin awesome independent bottler with a firkin massive pedigree.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Nose: Wow – very interesting and a bit difficult to pin down. For me, there’s an almost salted meat overtone right at the start (almost like an Islay without the tar, iodine and smoke) – but that seems to morph into honey and then sour lollies (eg warheads) Palate: Nice and oily, coats mouth beautifully with a warm sweet vibe. That salty/savoury note found in the nose is conspicuously absent on the palate – but the honey continues (albeit muted), alongside sweet green apples or pears. A medium spice at the back of the mouth. Warming and sweet and easily Finish: A nice rolling spicey and sweet finish that lingers long enough to count as chewy in my humble opinion. Fades out with a residual warmth.

OUR TASTING NOTES
    Colour: Liquid Bronze
Nose: Quite a complex nose with lots of fruits, mixed peel and chocolate and espresso coffee notes. Palate: Lighter than the nose would lead you to believe, but still packed with a lovely buttery-ness that coats the abundant fruit notes nicely. Plum pudding notes and more chocolate. Finish: Lingering mild spice in back of palate with fruit on the side, fades out to a milk arrowroot

  • The perfect gift for those whisky enthusiasts in your life (or a great way to get through lockdown) – The Lark Classic Cask Whisky Tasting Set! This specially-curated bundle of award winning deliciousness features 3  x 100ml bottles of Lark's finest whisky and a laser-etched Lark Glencairn Glass. Each of the whiskies in the Lark Classic Cask Whisky Tasting Set has a complex variety of flavours that the Lark team crafts from barrel to bottle. Lark Classic Cask 43% - Lark’s signature Tasmanian whisky, is a timeless single malt with hints of orange peel, vanilla bean, Christmas cake and golden syrup. Once you take a sip, the sweetness of butterscotch, the tartness of grapefruit and the earthiness of cloves will hit your tongue. The butterscotch and citrus linger while the finish is a smoky strand of Tasmanian peat. Lark SYMPHONY Nº1 40.2% - The brainchild of Head Distiller Chris Thomson. “I’ve always found a real joy in bringing different whiskies together. I think each distillery kind of has a fingerprint,” says Thomson. The blended malt has a nose of ripe mangos, tangerines and toasted pineapple. The finish is smooth and warm with fresh fruit and citrus for a balanced dram of Tasmanian whisky. Lark Cask Strength 58% - Fondly referred to as "Liquid Gold" by whisky fans. Like Classic Cask, it leads with an oaky aroma of orange peel, butterscotch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Its huge port cask influence gives in an intense vanilla and Christmas cake sweetness as well as maple syrup and stewed fruits. There’s a hint of Tasmanian peat smoke that carries through to where toffee, spices and citrus shine through for a warm, smooth finish.
  • We are proud to offer the Launceston Distillery ‘SMWC Peated Special Edition’ – Bourbon and Tawny Cask Matured, a pleasantly peated pour of potable perfection straight out of Hanger 17  – the home of the Launceston Distillery. A mildly peated release and very approachable whisky, in keeping with the Distillery’s style. We’ve had fantastic responses to the Launceston Distillery offerings we’ve tried in the past – but this peated expression adds a whole new layer of complexity to their fruity offerings. As the name suggests, an exclusive bottling for The Single Malt Whisky Club - from peated malt aged in bourbon and tawny casks (at approx. 80:20 ratio) and bottled at 46%. It’s a delightfully complex whisky that balances the smoke/sweet ratio nicely. Made from unpeated Tasmanian and peated Scottish barley. This peated Launceston has none of the tarry, asphalt or medicinal/iodine notes that are often associated with peat – more a mild sweet smokiness over a sweet and fruity base. Whilst it seems to contain about the same level of peat that last year’s Kilkerran 12yo had (slightly less maybe – I'm out of the Kilkeran to compare it to as I write this) – the lack of any sort of savoury or salty notes makes this a completely different whisky. Much more fruit-driven.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Colour: Midway between copper and rose-gold Nose: Dusty antique furniture, sweet orange marmalade and a fresh, floral – almost minty - note. Palate: Nicely coats the mouth with a light oiliness at first. A medium level of peaty-mustiness cuts through a sweet honeyed crumpet with a splash of vanilla and spice on the side. Finish: A lengthy rollercoaster of smoky and sweet notes. Nice, long, warming and chewy!

  • Lechyd da! Feast your eyes on this multi-award winning, Portwood finished whisky from the only distillery in Wales – The Penderyn Portwood. This is one of those ‘worst kept secrets’ kind of distillery where most people have heard of it – but surprisingly many have never tried it. Distilled, bottled and aged in Wales, which, we admit is not exactly the first word that comes to mind when we think of whisky.  We hope to change that perception and put Wales firmly in your personal ‘whisky map’ from now on with the Penderyn Portwood.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Colour: Bright reddey-gold Nose: Rich fruit, biscuit spices and apricot jam Palate: An initial ‘beer-ey’ taste is quickly overtaken by sweet fruit notes and warming spices Finish: Slowly decreasing waves of warm spice roll over mild tannin astringency and espresso coffee A very easy sipper – full bodied, but not ‘over the top’ and very nicely balanced fruit/spice. If you open it with 3 or 4 friends, you may as well bin the cork – because you won’t need it again!

  • This is something we have never released before – a Whisky from an Australian Independent Bottler (with a difference)! An exclusive Cask Strength expression for The Single Malt Whisky Club, we are proud to offer the Spirit Thief Belgrove Distillery French Oak Mataro -  a BEAST of a whisky that will never be repeated. From independent bottlers, Spirit Thief who specialise in red wine cask maturation, brewed at Last Rites Brewing Co in Cambridge, Tasmania, this Whisky was then distilled on-site at Belgrove Distillery where the pot stills are charged by direct flame, adding a signature charring to the flavour profile.  Fully matured in 1st fill French Oak Mataro casks for 2 and a half years and aged in the Spirit Thief bond stores. This whisky explores maturation in an oft-overlooked historical workhorse of an Australian red-wine varietal; Mataro (also called Mourvédre or Monastrell by the Spanish). Forget about fruit. This is scorched peanuts and dark chocolate decadence, married with quince paste and a few drops of truffle oil and you have the perfect accompaniment to a Mediterranean charcoal-grill.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
The result is a whisky unlike any I’ve tried before. Full of peanut brittle and scorched almonds, yet noticeably bereft of fruit on the palate. Colour: Deep copper-brown Nose: Sweet espresso with hazelnut syrup but also a pleasant whiff of leather in the background. Palate: A brief burst of charcoal-like notes (definitely NOT peat though – this is a much ‘crunchier’ flavour) and mild spice proceed a delicious roasted peanut brittle with toffee, scorched almonds and delightful overall toasted nuttyness. Finish: A long luscious and yes, chewy, finish with spice, nuts, coffee and chocolate all taking a turn at the wheel!

  • A ridiculously great single malt whisky, a whisky that has won gold medals nearly every year since its first release, a whisky from one of Australia’s powerhouse distilleries (and Australian success stories) – The Starward Solera. We are proud to offer the core expression from the one and only Starward. Not exclusive, not made for us…just one of Australia’s most delectable whiskies aged in ex-Apera casks, that built the Starward brand into what it is known for worldwide and it all started in a small shed in Melbourne. The awards for the Starward Solera speak for themselves:
    • Double Gold SFWSC 2021
    • Gold World Whisky Masters 2021
    • Gold Medal Winner at World Whiskies Awards 2016, 2017, 2019
The ‘Solera’ for us is the representation of the new world of great Australian whisky and the way the Solera method works means that every bottle of the Starward Solera contains some of the very original spirit produced at the distillery.
    OUR TASTING NOTES
Colour: Coppery-gold Nose: Muted oak underlies a real stewed apricot vibe with sweet fruit pastilles and there’s also a touch of citrus there. Palate: Coats the mouth nicely. Fruit mince, poached pears in brown sugar with custard and lovely oak notes just making themselves known in the background. Finish: Nice and rounded. Mild pepper coats the mouth whilst toasted oak and that lovely fruitiness peaks through the cracks. This is a nice and light whisky yet it packs a mouthful of pepper-fruity Apera bliss! This will come into its own when the weather warms again. Put some in a highball, make a whisky soda, or try it mixed with whatever you love! Go on...no one’s watching and I won’t tell if you don’t!

  • Behold Old Blighty! Big Ben ain’t got nothing on this whisky. An Australian exclusive to the Single Malt Whisky Club from England’s oldest Distillery (and from a family that has been growing and milling grain for over 600 years). We are super proud to get our hands on the limited release ‘The English’ Rum Cask Matured. From England’s oldest whisky Distillery, St. Georges, in Norfolk. ‘The English’ brand has been in Australia for a little while now and has been met with rave reviews, and we’re proud to have secured the whole Australian allocation of their ‘Rum Cask Matured‘ expression. Only 1440 bottles of this whisky exist worldwide and we have this fantastic Rum and Raisin delight for our members! Oddly enough, England’s ‘Oldest Distillery’ isn’t all that old as it turns out – being built in 2005 and first run of the stills in 2006. Yes – whilst some of the world’s oldest distilleries sit at the top of the continent – England itself has been completely bereft of whisky distilleries for over 100 years. That’s right – since the Lea Valley Distillery closed it’s doors in 1905 – England did not have a single whisky distillery. It took the son of an English grain-growing dynasty going back to the 1400’s to make this right. After a life of working in fields as diverse and geographically apart as mining in Australia, rural reconstruction in Russia and even building the first organic cattle and sheep farm under the ‘Country Stewardship Scheme’ in Norfolk, James Nelstrop saw his dream of 45 years come to life in 2006 when St. George’s Distillery opened for business. The St. George’s Distillery has led the charge for the English whisky-distilling scene. Since it’s opening in 2006, no less than 21 more whisky distilleries have begun producing in England. You have got to taste this exceptional single malt whisky!
    OUR TASTING NOTES
This is a delightfully lush whisky with a real ‘Rum and Raisin ice-cream’ character at the first smell. Sweet, rich and creamy – with a lovely spiciness, and a complex palate. Nose: Pretty much screams ‘Rum and Raisin’ ice cream on the nose. Vanilla as well and a citrus tartness, but there is also that ‘rum funk’ – sort of over ripe tropical fruit – lingering in the background. Palate: The ‘rum funk’ element is gone, but the raisins and citrus persist. Sweet, oily – and the spice builds in a wave that crashes on an oaky shore. Vanilla there as well as weetbix-ey type malt notes. Finish: Finishes with a lingering spice and a touch of saltyness right at the end.
