From only 1200 bottles worldwide, this is 9 year old, sensationally fruity Speyside SHERY BOMB of epic proportions – The Carn Mor Miltonduff 2014 PX Cask!

This LIMITED RELEASE, Carn Mor Miltonduff 2014 9 year old was distilled in the Speyside Miltonduff distillery in 2014 and then fully matured in ex-PX sherry buts for 9 full years. It has been bottled at 47.5% abv and has not been chill filtered, nor had anything added.

The Carn Moor brand is owned by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distilleries, which in turn is solely owned and operated by one of Scotland’s oldest and most respected ‘whisky families’ – Jamie and Brian Morrison. Started in the 18th century as grocers, Morrisons soon began branching out into whisky brokers – and subsequently into blending, independent bottling and distilling. Their indy brands are Carn Mor and Mac-Talla (we tried that last year in June) and their whisky brands Old Perth (blended) and Bruadar Single Malt Whisky.

Carn Mor only bottle limited releases. They aim to celebrate the unique differences each batch has to offer, rather than produce a consistent product. VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE indeed!

Nose: The first thing that hits is the incredible richness of the nose. Yes, there’s a beautiful deep fruitiness – but what makes the nose truly ‘pop’ is a sort of rich cheesy umami behind the fruit. The same way that brie both smooths and accentuates an apple slice. It’s really quite spectacular!

Palate: Oh, so luxuriantly viscous on the palate – a brief firecracker burst of French oak pepper leaves as quicky as it starts, opening a curtain on seriously syrupy, sticky fruity. Big, sticky rich stewed prunes and spiced fruit mince pies (short crust pastry notes and all!).

Finish: Long, Warm, chewy and immensely satisfying. Those huge fruit flavours just roll on and on – not so much in waves, but entire sets, with high cocoa chocolate and sweet black coffee in the breaks.

A textbook example of Speyside sherry maturation – if anything a bit more intense thanks to the PX vibe that’s flowing liberally in this one. Big, and rich and creamy is a pretty good ‘Cliffs Notes’ summary. A sweet, fruity, easy drinking for the complete newbie or whisky-nerd alike.
