Rolling Cask Linkwood

A few months ago we offered a 19 year old Blended Malt from a relatively new Indy bottler name Rolling Cask. We were so impressed, and the feedback so good, that we had to grab some more from Rolling Cask. This month’s Members Extra is one of their 3-part ‘Kung Fu’ series featuring seriously cool (for the Kung Fu movie geeks at least) ‘Kung Fu’ style labels.

But – not only are the labels fantastic – more importantly the whisky inside is absolutely sensational – and priced incredibly well to boot.

OUR TASTING NOTES

Nose: Rather delicate and herbaceous on the nose at first pour, but that soon opens up and deepens with a little warmth into the glass, some lovely fruit aromas emerging – notably pineapple, plums and ‘strawberries & cream’ lollies, all with a backdrop of some nice leather notes.

Palate: Super sweet and viscous in the first impression. An initial burst of creamy-sweet fruit and then a burst of pepper builds and crescendos with waves of dates, prunes and fruit mince crashing through the cracks.

Finish: Deliciously peppery ride this one. Waves of pepper come and go, rise and fall as dark chocolate, espresso coffee and the sense of unburnt cigar tobacco wafting through.

Delicious, fruity and a good long chewy finish – all with a nice French-oak pepper spice that keeps the sweetness in check without being overwhelming. It doesn’t look like a sherry bomb – but it has all the flavour of one!
