Mystery Malt

The second of our $99 whiskies for April is another Mystery Malt.

That’s right, we got such a hugely positive response from the January Mystery Malt (which turned out to be a 16yo PX sherry bomb!) that we knew we had to do it again. And what better way to back up a $99 Malt of the Month, than with a $99 ‘Members Extra’. That’s TWO single malt whiskies for under $200!
OK, you’ve got to take a slight gamble – but it’s a pretty safe bet with us, after all!

It might be a fantastic deal that’s fallen in our lap, it might be a ‘swapsies’ we’ve made with a supplier, it might be some stock we’ve bought way too much of. What it won’t be is whisky we’re not willing to back 100%. We’ve worked hard to gain your trust over the last 19 years delivering amazing whiskies, and this is an AWESOME whisky.

The ‘Mystery Malt’ for April is a Scottish single malt from the Speyside region. 700ml of non-peated, single sherry cask finished whisky bottled at a respectable 48.9%abv. This is truly easy-dramming whisky. Light on the palate, yet full and round and fruity. Big on the palate but in no way overwhelming or hot – just perfect, in fact.

You won’t be disappointed, we promise.  At it’s original retail price ($139) it was exceptional value whisky. At 99 bucks it’s an absolute steal!

Nose: Very fresh and herbal on the nose. Newly cut grass, fresh orange juice and flowering jasmine. There is also sweet element that I’m having trouble putting my finger on – toffee, perhaps?

Palate: Absolutely magnificently balanced spirit – wonderful oaky notes drizzled over milk arrowroot bikkies, light fruitiness and just a hint of biscuit spices. Round, rich and sweet (but not overly) with a lovely crispness to it as well.

Finish: Long and satisfying with a real peanut-butter edge there. Granny Smith apple juice pops in and out as the mild pepper notes swirl around the subtle fruity tones.

This is truly easy-dramming whisky. Light on the palate, yet full and round and fruity. Big on the palate but in no way overwhelming or hot – just perfect, in fact.
