Members Only Small Batch – Firkin Caol Ila 2012 7 year old

We did it again! After the sold out success of the Small Batch Extra last month, we got another one. For the members only Small Batch Extra for February, we have the unbelievably special Caol Ila 2012 7 year old.

This is a Single Cask bottling! Only 330 bottles of this exist in the world, and each bottle is individually numbered – so it’s strictly first in, best dressed.

This baby is a sweat peat treat, that’s going to be hard to beat! It’s just so creamy bacon-ey good. It’s savory umami that balances a rounded sweetness with a salt kick at the end to complete the trinity. In other words – it’s Firkin delicious!

When the ex- ‘Head of Malts’ at mega-company Diageo teams up with the owner of ‘Blackadder International’ independent bottlers you get a marriage of decades of experience of whisky production with a newfound freedom to experiment! Nose: Creamy woodsmoke, campfire bacon, stewed prunes and honey.

Palate: Beautiful savoury smoke wrapped in a luscious mouthfeel. Maple smoked bacon and a deep, rounded sweetness that easily stands up to the smoke. Not so much fruity as sweet smoke.

Finish: Long, chewy and as satisfying as can be. Smokey at first but the ending gives away that Caol Ila seaside influence with salt, kelp and just a touch of peat mustiness.
