That’s right, we got such a hugely positive response from the previous Mystery Malts that we had to do it again. And what better way to back up a Deanston Cask Strength Scottish Malt of the Month, than with a $99 Welsh ‘Mystery Malt’!

The ‘Mystery Malt’ for January is a Welsh single malt. A whisky that is EXCLUSIVE to the Single Malt Whisky Club, 700ml of exceptional Jamaican Rum and Ruby Port Cask Matured Whisky.

OK, you’ve got to take a slight gamble – but it’s a pretty safe bet with us, after all!

It might be a fantastic deal that’s fallen in our lap, it might be a ‘swapsies’ we’ve made with a supplier, it might be some stock we’ve bought way too much of. What it won’t be is whisky we’re not willing to back 100%. We’ve worked hard to gain your trust over the last 19 years delivering amazing whiskies, and this is an AWESOME whisky.

You won’t be disappointed, we promise.  At it’s original retail price ($139) it was exceptional value whisky. At 99 bucks it’s an absolute steal!

Nose: Lovely summer stone fruits – cherries, plumbs and peaches with a hint of tart pineapple. But there’s more than just fruit here – jube lollies, floral jasmine wafts and a hint of petrichor there as well.

Palate: Crispy clean mouthfeel, with just a hint of pepper. The sweet notes on the nose don’t really carry through here as promised – it’s quite a dry affair actually. There is sweetness at first, don’t get me wrong – but it’s soon overtaken by sharp, crunchy fruit notes (think granny smith apple) backed with mild tannin-astringency.

Finish: Lovely fruitiness with a sugar-gum sweetness comes through at the end but is given some pleasant edges by the white pepper notes. Crisp and clean spirit with a nice tartness that just begs to go around again as your noseing the next one.
