Nose: lovely dry oakines at first, then sweet fruit notes emerge with just the smallest touch of ‘rum funk’ on its tail, some biscuit spices and faint flashed of aniseed, unburnt tobacco and that ‘tin -Shed Distillery signature’ -a pleasant new-leather note.
Palate: Lovely viscous mouthfeel with a nice amount of those ‘shiraz pepper’ notes preceding a surprisingly (considering how sweet the nose is) dry whisky – it’s not ‘super-dry’ , but it has some crisp, but not quite astringent edges. Marzipan, a poofteenth of cloves, bitter espresso coffee and a nice nutty-ness as well.
Finish: Definitely a ‘chewer’ this one – as in you can chew on this finish for ages. No surprises, just lovely waves of big flavour rolling over the merest touch of smoke as it fades.
Another great whisky from Iniquity, and one we’re proud to call ‘exclusive to the SMWC’. The three distinctly different barrels it was matured in definitely come through in the blend (as Ian says in his notes) – some funk from the rum, dry crispness from the chardonnay and the pepper from the Shiraz cask. It really is a wonderful whisky to settle in with on these rapidly cooling nights, and just enjoy the ride.
