An EXCLUSIVE blend of Iniquity Whisky’s oldest stock! From the Legends that are Iniquity, The Iniquity Triptych 6 is a blend of three casks – Rum, Shiraz and Chardonnay.

Blended especially for the SMWC by Ian and Vic, this features two casks of Tin Shed’s oldest whisky at 7 years old (Rum and Chardonnay casks) and a portion of 6 year old from a Shiraz cask (Elderton Commander Shiraz at that!) – hence the ‘6’ as an age statement must be the youngest whisky. After some back and forth with of samples at various ABVs – we’ve all agreed that 43% is the perfect bottling strength.

Tin Shed Distilling (the home of Iniquity whisky) began as a humble distillery in a literal ‘tin shed’ in the backwaters of Adelaide’s industrial area. Anyone who has visited the old location can attest that it was certainly a ‘no frills’ operation with Ian’s and Vic’s shared office doubling as the tasting room and ‘cellar door’ for sales. No official distillery tours were offered, but a quick phone call or email beforehand saw any whisky lover welcomed and accommodated with a quick tour and sampling. I’m pretty sure no one ever left that old tin shed empty handed.

Iniquity Triptych

That’s somewhat changed now, as Tin Shed Distilling recently ‘levelled-up’ both their location and their distillery itself. From a humble industrial shed to a bespoke distillery with a restaurant, deck bar and cellar door shop in the magnificent Adelaide Hills suburb of Nairne.

NOTE: About the labels – the bottles were to be screen-printed. However, a late breakdown of the screen-printer’s, well, screen-printer meant we had to adapt and overcome. And so we’ve used some of Tin Shed’s ‘Private Cask’ labels to facilitate getting these out to members on time. Not a perfect solution – but it’s the liquid inside that counts, right? Big props, though, to Ian and Vic for their destroyed wrists and hands after hand-writing all the labels!

OUR TASTING NOTES

Nose: lovely dry oakines at first, then sweet fruit notes emerge with just the smallest touch of ‘rum funk’ on its tail, some biscuit spices and faint flashed of aniseed, unburnt tobacco and that ‘tin -Shed Distillery signature’ -a pleasant new-leather note.

Palate: Lovely viscous mouthfeel with a nice amount of those ‘shiraz pepper’ notes preceding a surprisingly (considering how sweet the nose is) dry whisky – it’s not ‘super-dry’ , but it has some crisp, but not quite astringent edges. Marzipan, a poofteenth of cloves, bitter espresso coffee and a nice nutty-ness as well.

Finish: Definitely a ‘chewer’ this one – as in you can chew on this finish for ages. No surprises, just lovely waves of big flavour rolling over the merest touch of smoke as it fades.

Another great whisky from Iniquity, and one we’re proud to call ‘exclusive to the SMWC’. The three distinctly different barrels it was matured in definitely come through in the blend (as Ian says in his notes) – some funk from the rum, dry crispness from the chardonnay and the pepper from the Shiraz cask. It really is a wonderful whisky to settle in with on these rapidly cooling nights, and just enjoy the ride.
