Peated whisky from the Lowlands is still a rarity, and that’s part of what makes KinGlassie RAW so compelling. InchDairnie isn’t trying to mimic the coastal iodine of Islay or the earthy depth of Highland peat. Instead, they’ve crafted a smoke profile that feels distinctly their own – campfire‑like, smouldering, and warm, with a sweetness that wraps around the malt rather than smothering it.

This is whisky made by a distillery that refuses to play by the old rulebook. InchDairnie has built its reputation on innovation – unusual mash bills, experimental stills, and a relentless pursuit of flavour.

The barley is peated to 50ppm, putting it in the same league as Kilchoman and edging into Octomore territory. But ppm is only part of the story. The smoke here is expressive but not aggressive – more glowing embers than roaring inferno. It’s a whisky that invites you in rather than daring you to survive it.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: The first impression is unmistakably smoky – but not coastal, medicinal, or tarry. Instead, it’s scorched heather, smouldering fireplace, and wet bonfire logs, with a mineral edge that hints at chalk and flint. Beneath the smoke lies a surprising sweetness: caramelised banana, lemon drizzle, vanilla foam, and crisp green apple.

It’s a nose that evolves with time in the glass, shifting between savoury smoke and bright orchard fruit. The balance is impressive – the peat leads, but the malt never disappears

Palate: The palate opens with ashy smoke, black pepper, and smoked bacon, quickly followed by salted toffee and a wave of malt sweetness. There’s a savoury‑sweet interplay here that feels almost culinary – like charred citrus, sponge cake, and sourdough crust all woven together.

Finish: Medium‑long, gently drying, and satisfyingly smoky. Expect cracked black pepper, spent coffee grounds, liquorice root, and lingering sweet malt
