OUR TASTING NOTES

Nose: Very fresh and fruity on the nose. Lot’s of pears and citrus-y notes first up, but then a distinct salted caramel swirl soon becomes apparent.

Palate: The citrus and white fruits go through to the palate – as does that interesting salted quality. More vanilla and also some honey there. Nice and crisp, fruity with a sweet roundness.

Finish: Honey notes roll around the vanilla and fruit as it slowly fades.

Barr an Uisce 1803

FROM BARR AN UISCE

Limited edition 16 year old single malt matured in first fill Kentucky bourbon barrels. Only 1803 bottles produced and all numbered by hand. 46% ABV

Matured for 16 years, this special whiskey displays all the hallmarks of extended wood aging. The ‘cereal’ character of the malted barley has melded with the flavours and aromas of the white American oak (Quercus Alba) and shows the sweet vanilla, toasted coconut and caramelised notes of the charred wood.

Bright gold in colour.
Nose: Citrus notes at first – mandarin. Then butterscotch, toffee and caramelised aromas.
Palate: Oily textured and mellow in the mouth with hints of toffee and vanilla.
Finish: Some spiciness in the finish with toasty oak lingering.

ABOUT BARR AN UISCE

The founder of “Barr an Uisce” Irish Whiskey, Ian Jones, comes from the small village of Redcross, which lies below the townland of Barraniskey. Redcross was a major stopping point for horse and carts travelling from southern Ireland to Dublin many years ago. People who travelled along the East Coast of Ireland found themselves in the village. Redcross became a meeting point for gossip, news, culture and music.

Redcross and Barraniskey were both affected by the penal laws many years ago. In 1803 the Barraniskey church was built for people who moved from the village. The copper coloured Cross still stands in the graveyard in Redcross to this day.

Ian’s family have a long history in the business. Ian’s great grandfather owned a rural pub and following in that tradition, Ian’s family-run pub set in the rolling hills of County Wicklow, is a hub of Community activity and life over one hundred years on from his great-grandfather’s story. It is in this pub in Redcross where friends and families come together and enjoy music and laughter. Our Brand truly represents all that is beautiful in Wicklow and Ireland. Barr an Uisce celebrates the history of our townlands and culture.

Barr an Uisce is a small craft Irish Whiskey company that produce memorable Irish Whiskeys that celebrates the native, modern Irish spirit. Barr an Uisce are the only Irish whiskey using family well water from county Wicklow to cut their Whiskeys from cask strength to bottle strength.

Since its launch in 2016, the company has won many international awards, including being named ‘Favourite Irish Whiskey’ by The New York Times. Using ingredients from Wicklow, Barr an Uisce is currently laying down its own whiskey, which will mature in a number of years. The Irish words “Barr an Uisce” literal English translation is “above the water”. It is also the Irish name given to BARR AN UISCE IRISH WHISKEY

Barraniskey, which is a town land set in the heart of County Wicklow, on the East Coast of Ireland. The Irish word “Uisce” or water in English, was used during the time Irish monks first distilled what we now know to be whiskey. They called it “Uisce Beatha” meaning Water of Life. Water from County Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, is used to cut Barr an Uisce Whiskeys. Barr an Uisce Irish whiskeys have been highly appreciated by international critics and spirits awards. They have won many accolades for their Whiskeys including being named “Favourite Irish whiskey” by The New York Times. Barr an Uisce is a member of Origin Green and the Irish Whiskey Association.
